Despite last week's massive operation by the police in Montego Bay, St James, to rid the streets of prostitutes, they have returned to their normal place of doing business.

Last week, the lawmen swooped down at the intersection of Harbour and South streets - an unofficial red light district - where many prostitutes hang out and do business. The operation saw more than 70 people, including prostitutes, being detained, placed in a truck, and transported to the Freeport Police Station, where they were processed.

However, a WEEKEND Star news team on Wednesday night visited the area where the police operation had taken place and the prostitutes and business were back in full swing. Our news team saw several female prostitutes hanging out and shouting to men, offering sexual favours.

The removal of the prostitutes came about when 52-year-old Bobbett Williams from Mount Zion, St James, was attacked and shot to death while at the popular hang-out spot.

It is a known fact that most of the prostitutes are from other parts of the island but come to the city to do business and return home when they have accumulated enough money to feed their families.
