One man remains hospitalised after he was attacked and shot by gunmen in the vicinity of a school in downtown Kingston yesterday afternoon.

Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that the man was walking along the intersection of Duke and Beeston streets, which houses the St George's Girls Primary and Infant School, when he was pounced upon by unknown assailants who shot him multiple times. The gunmen then escaped on foot.

THE STAR understands that the incident occurred about 12:25 p.m., while school was still in session. Students who heard the explosions reportedly screamed in fear.

The wounded man was taken to hospital where he is currently being treated. The police say they have not yet established a motive for the shooting. Investigations into the shooting continue.
