Hospital silent on ultrasound of teen mom

The Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston is tight-lipped on the findings of the ultrasound for the teen mother who claimed that one of her twins was stolen at the hospital in January. THE STAR understands that an ultrasound was conducted on the teen mother on January 13, and she claims it determined that she would give birth to twins. At the time, she said she was told that she would give birth to a boy, but the sex of the other child was uncertain.

However, when she was discharged from hospital on January 23, she only went home with one girl.

Last week, THE STAR was again contacted by the family of the teen mother, and our attention was drawn to an armband, seemingly with the word twins written on it, which was removed from the child after they left the hospital.

What was inscribed on the armband was not confirmed.

When contacted, the senior medical officer (SMO) at the hospital, Dr Orville Morgan, said he was aware of the dispute between the teen and the hospital, but offered very little information on the matter.

"She was led to believe that she was having twin pregnancy by every person who she came in contact with before the delivery ... all different means that a patient would normally use to find out," Morgan said.

When pressed even further, Morgan remained tight-lipped.

"I am the SMO, however, medical policy is that I would have to get permission from the patient. The patient will have to declare in writing that she gives permission for me to disclose," he said.

The 16-year-old mother, on the other hand, is still adamant that she delivered twins.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).

The South East Regional Health Authority has said that their investigation revealed that no less than seven medical professional witnessed the patient deliver a single baby.
