November trial date for man accused of extorting businessman

A man accused of attempting to extort a businessman out of a sum of money in exchange for not killing him will be tried in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on November 3.

The accused, Jeffery Demontagnac, is alleged to have visited the complainant’s business place on Hagley Park Road on the night of September 8, and said, “A tonight you fi dead.”

It is further alleged that the accused man claimed he was an assassin who had been paid to kill the complainant, and the only way to prevent the hit from being executed is if the businessman pays him.

The court further heard that the accused visited the complainant’s business place another night and continued the threats. Following that visit the complainant called the police, who then arrested the accused man.

After the allegations were heard, Demontagnac’s lawyer refuted the claims, saying his client was simply having a drink at the time the incident is alleged to have occurred. He further added that his client is not in a position to extort anyone, as he works three different jobs, “from Monday to Sunday, 24 seven.”

However, Chief Parish Judge Judith Pusey rubbished the attorney’s claim that his client works every hour of every day. She extended his bail and a finger print order was made. Demontagnac is to return to courtroom three on November 16 to be tried in the matter.
