A perfume vendor will have to fork up $15,000 or spend six months in prison for stealing a woman's bag containing cash and other items valuing $70,000 in downtown, Kingston last month.

Forty-two-year-old Roderick Wilson pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.

The court heard that on December 10, the complainant entered a store downtown and left her bag at the luggage counter to try on clothes in the store.

An eyewitness saw when Wilson took up the women's bag and made off with it.

The eyewitness, along with others gave chase, but when they caught him, the bag was nowhere to be found.

He was later handed over to the police and charged.

In court, Wilson expressed remorse for his crime and promised not to do it again.
