Security guard fined for beating woman

A security guard was slapped with a $20,000 fine after he beat up his female co-worker who rejected his relationship advances.

Thirty-three-year-old Johan Moore, who also works as a phlebotomist, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm when he appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.

Threatening gestures

Reports are that on November 10, 2016, at about 7:45 a.m., the complainant was at work when she allowed the accused entry on to the compound where they work.

As Moore walked past the complainant, he made threatening gestures and she responded.

Moore then entered the guard room where the complainant was stationed and attacked her, hitting her repeatedly in her face and upper body.

A report was later made to the police.

In court, Moore claimed he had an explanation for his actions.

"Before the incident, I made some advances at her and it did not work out. She later said some things about my mother and other females in my family, and when I was walking past her, I felt something hit me, and that's why I did what I did," Moore said.

Upon hearing the explanation, the presiding judge Andrea Collins chided Moore.

"If someone is not interested, you simply leave them alone," she said. She ordered Moore to pay a $20,000 fine or spend 60 days in prison.
