Suspect held for beheading neighbour

The Clarendon police are reporting that a suspect in Sunday's beheading of a fisherman in Mitchell Town is now in custody and will be slapped with homicide charges later this week.

In an interview with THE STAR, Superintendent in charge of Operations David White explained that the deceased, 30-year-old Alpheous Thompson, was chopped to death during a dispute with his neighbour.

"The police have picked up a suspect in yesterday's (Sunday) machete slaying in the Mitchell Town area of Clarendon. We are treating this incident as a homicide, and the expectation is that he will be charged during the course of the week," White said.

Reacting to the Sunday evening incident, a community member said the incident was unfortunate and also avoidable.

"It never have to reach this far. It's just a case of Alphy (Thompson) and his neighbour's sisters were cussing, and as you know, other people get involved. And from one thing to another, the sisters' brother end up chopping off Alphy's head," the community member, who gave her name as Paulette, said.
