Father allegedly beats son with hammer
A teenager who intervened in a dispute between his parents was allegedly beaten with a hammer by his father.
The boy, 18, reportedly escaped serious injuries as his father, Toro Bailey, who is now on trial for assault occasioning bodily harm, is alleged to have stabbed at him several times.
When the matter was mentioned in the Kingston and St. Andrew parish court on Wednesday, the court heard that Bailey was ill-treating the mother of his son when the teenager intervened.
The court was told that Bailey stabbed at his son several times then used a hammer to beat him.
A report was made to the police and Bailey was charged.
Bailey’s attorney told the court that her client was attempting to discipline his son. The lawyer said that when children reach a certain age that task becomes more difficult.
Parish judge Simone Wolfe-Reece ordered that Bailey, who is on bail, be fingerprinted. He is to return to court on June 20.
