Flankers gets bag juice factory

The community of Flankers in St James is now home to Macky's Bag Juice, established at the Flanker Resource Centre and named in honour of the facility's founder and former executive director, the late Marilyn McIntosh-Nash.

The initiative, which has been endorsed by the Bureau of Standards, came about through a grant from the National Integrity Action and the Youth Crime Watch of Jamaica. It is a non-profit organisation and is expected to provide employment and generate income for the resource centre.

"I am so thrilled that this opportunity came for us to honour a person who started the centre in her home, and transitioned to the back of a church, and then to this place, which was once a day-care centre," said Sandra Munroe-Clarke, the administrator of the facility.

"It was her dream to see an entity like this flourishing in a community like Flankers, and this event today is the milestone in what she had envisioned for us as a community, for us to be sustainable and to be able to empower ourselves."

Senator Charles Sinclair, the councillor for the Flankers division, was elated for what he called a dream now becoming a reality.

"The Flankers Resource Centre has been a beacon in this community, a place where persons can come to improve themselves, to learn a skill, and to be taught lessons," he said. "This particular launch immortalises Marilyn Nash, and for you to have taken on her name in relation to this project, I believe it is a fitting tribute," he said.
