A Westmoreland woman on Saturday beat up her brother when he reportedly entered the family house with a gun and allegedly opened fire hitting an occupant.

Head of the Westmoreland police, Senior Superintendent of Police Gary McKenzie, said the gunman was masked when he entered the house.

"The house is owned by his father. His sister intervened because he was masked so they initially didn't know it was who," McKenzie told WESTERN STAR.

FLED THE SCENE

The police reported that about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, a man entered the house brandishing a gun and shot one of the occupants several times. The woman intervened by jumping on his back, wrestling him to the ground and punching him several times.

The attacker fled the scene, leaving his behind a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, which was handed over to the police.

"The police carried out several operations during the night and this man was arrested so he is now in police custody," McKenzie said.

Meanwhile, the man who was shot during the incident, was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injures on Sunday. He has been identified as Marcus Tucker, a labourer of Papine, St Andrew and Jungle Lane, Westmoreland.

The matter is now under investigation.
