St Elizabeth cops to quiz rape accused today

October 17, 2018

Investigators in St Elizabeth have rescheduled a question-and-answer session for today, with 24-year-old Demar Dowe Scott, the entertainment coordinator charged with raping two female tourists at a hotel in St James recently.

He was transferred to the custody of the St Elizabeth police last week, where he is facing additional rape charges in Balaclava district, stemming from 2012.

The question-and-answer session was originally scheduled for yesterday.

Deputy Superintendent Leroy Minot said: "It had to be postponed. I was advised by my crime officer that it will take place tomorrow (today) afternoon."

Scott was recently charged by detectives attached to the Freeport Police Station in St James for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, two counts of assault with intent to rob, two counts of rape, and two counts of grievous sexual assault.

According to investigators, Scott is linked to the 2012 incident by forensic testing.

The accused is also waiting to be transported to Manchester, where he will face a series of identification parades for his alleged involvement in six other rape cases.

STOLEN WEAPON

It is reported that on September 27, Scott, who was employed as a trainee entertainment coordinator to the Reggae Riu Hotel in Rose Hall, went to the room occupied by a licensed firearm holder and stole his licensed firearm.

About 11:15 p.m. that same night, he broke into a room occupied by the two American visitors and held them at gunpoint with the stolen weapon.

He then forcefully had sex with them, while holding them at gunpoint.

While raping both women, the firearm fell from his hands and it was picked up by one of the victims, who opened fire hitting him in his arm.

Scott ran from the room and jumped from the balcony, escaping in bushes.

He was captured days later.
