NWC locks off discount programme this Friday
The National Water Commission says its COVID-19 Assistance Programme (CAP) will expire at the end of this week.
The initiative sees customers benefiting from a 30% write off on all outstanding bills, the waiving of reconnection fees, accounts disconnected before the first confirmed case of COVID was announced, and the waiving of late fees for the period.
NWC says over five thousand customers have benefited from the 30% write off so far and it is expected that more customers will be eligible for the concession as a revision of the facility was done effective June 1, 2020, to now include arrears for over thirty days.
Customers may apply for the NWC CAP concession by visiting the website at www.nwcjamaica.com, contacting their nearest commercial office, or by calling 888-CALL-NWC.
"A driving factor behind the CAP is the NWC’s policy position to collect, rather than disconnect. Disconnection is not a preferred course that the NWC usually adopts. However, it is necessary under certain conditions as the utility has to balance its social responsibility of providing water with prudent financial management," a statement from the utility company read.
The CAP initiative ends this Friday, July 31, 2020.
