JPS to complete streetlight repairs by month end
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS), says it is on track to meet its August 31 deadline, to normalise streetlight operations across the island.
This means that almost 98% of all streetlights will be working within the next two weeks.
According to JPS, just last week, teams repaired over 880 streetlamps across the island, while 316 High Pressure Sodium lights were converted to smart LED streetlights.
The parishes which saw the most extensive work were Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Catherine and Westmoreland.
In the week ahead, JPS crews will continue the work they have been carrying out in several communities, across Kingston & St. Andrew, including, Waterhouse, Vineyard town, Norman Gardens, Denham town, communities in St. Catherine, to include Ginger Ridge, Sligoville, Above Rocks, and communities in Westmoreland inclusive of, Savnna-la-Mar, and surrounding areas.
In the meantime, JPS has appealed to residents to protect the streetlights in their communities from vandalism, so that the repaired lights may operate for the common good.
