ISSA cancels all all sporting competitions for 2020
The Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has announced the cancellation of all sporting events scheduled for the Christmas term of the 2020-2021 academic year.
In a release today, ISSA said that the decision was made in light of the delayed start of the reopening of schools amid the recent surge of positive cases of the coronavirus in Jamaica.
The spike led to the Ministry of Education pushing back the physical reopening on a phased basis, which is now slated to begin on October 5.
Among the competitions affected by the cancellation is the 2020 Schoolboy Football season which was awaiting approval for an October start.
"Having previously proposed an October 16, 2020 restart to our competitions, ISSA will use the next eight weeks to re-assess the conditions under which schools will reopen and how they will operate," the association said.
"Subject to this assessment and the suitability of conditions, ISSA, through consultations with its membership, will determine the list of competitions to be offered and a new timetable for the resumption of school sports," it added.
