GC Foster set to reduce scholarships
The coronavirus pandemic has continued to wreak havoc on the local sporting industry with the latest implications set to affect student-athletes who are looking to matriculate to G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport on a full ride.
The sporting institution is set to cut the number of scholarships it offers, as the repercussions of COVID-19 means that it will be operating on a reduced budget.
Chester McCarthy, the athletic director of G.C. Foster, told STAR Sports that the the institution will only be offering grants to student athletes who have represented the country in their respective sporting disciplines.
"What we've done is to reduce the number of scholarships we are going to be giving in some quarters, and we're concentrating more on our national representatives," he said.
"Our thing is that we don't believe we should have national representatives out there not being able to get in school based off of affordability."
Safety measures
McCarthy also pointed out that the housing facilities will remain a part of the scholarships, but the institution will organise the dorm spaces to follow safety measures put in place to reduce the likelihood of the virus spreading.
"Dorm facilities are still included, but we cannot take on to the campus the same number of students we had last year because of the social-distancing protocols," he said.
If students wish to live on hall, however, McCarthy is encouraging them to reapply early so that each student can be placed on the dorm priority list.
