Teen among two killed by lightning

A 14-year-old student of Mile Gully High School and another man were killed yesterday after they were struck by lightning.

The teen has been identified as Ricardo Fisher, of Kensham district in St Elizabeth, while the other deceased is 30-year-old Sheldon Caine, farmer of Mineral Heights in Clarendon.

Reports are that shortly after 3 p.m. Fisher and Caine were picking pears in Kensham, when it started to rain heavily.

A relative warned them to get out of the rain, after lightning began to strike. Both deceased and and another male ran towards the house but were struck by a bolt of lightning, which also destroyed a water tank inside the yard.

Fisher and Caine suffered severe burns and died on the spot, while the third man, who was wearing water boots, escaped with minor injuries.
