Robert Scott says he was the victim of a hit-and-run eight years ago.

The year 2012 marked one of devastation for Robert Scott, an Allman Town, Kingston, resident. The course of his life was altered when the now 62-year-old was hit from his bike by a motorist in Tavern, St Andrew, while selling CDs, his usual means of hustle.

"Me deal with music so me use to ride around and sell my tracks. I was on the sidewalk when a lady was coming down on the right-hand side, but she should have been on the left. She hit me off my bike and mi fly and drop right in the middle of the road," Scott explained.

Since then, he has been relying on crutches to move around because his hip was broken. He said he has not been able to work and has little to no help.

"Right now me nuh have nothing so me just down. December coming is eight years since the accident and from that me don't work no good job," said Scott. "Me have to take care of myself now too because a lady that use to help me died."

Scott told THE STAR that he wasn't given a chance to demand any assistance from the motorist as she fled after the accident.

She just mash up my life

"She don't collect me number or leave hers, she just mash up my life and gone like that," he said.

He said that the injury he incurred can be corrected by surgery valued at $2 million; however, he is not in a position to find such funds.

"If me get the help to do the surgery me will be able to walk again and do back a little hustling because things not easy right now. Me nuh really have nothing, a one and two neighbours will bring me something to eat or so. Especially with COVID now me a suffer even more," said the distraught Scott.

He made attempts to get the surgery done a few times, but without success.

"Me did get some help from Ministry of Health at one point but them take back the money because every time the surgery should be done the hospital say them don't have any space," he said. After all these years, he expressed hope for a change.

"Me just need another chance at life because me can't give up on myself, and to live my life depending on people is not easy," he said.
