Nicolus Scafe, 24, one of the four survivors of a fatal crash which killed three of his friends on the Portmore Toll Road Sunday morning, is calling himself "blessed" after only suffering minor scratches and a headache.

"Me feel blessed because when the car crash and to see how it spin and mash up and me still come out alive, me believe say something even stronger than prayers a guide me," Scafe told THE STAR.

Reports are that the accident occurred about 12:40 a.m when the driver reportedly lost control of the Toyota Wish motor car in which the group of friends was travelling.

Three died on the spot while the others were rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital. THE STAR understands that the group was heading to Gregory Park after attending a party. The deceased have been identified as Jonoi Lewis, reportedly the driver; Ricky Gordon; and a man known only as 'Rygin King'. Scafe said he regrets going to the party and said he didn't expect to be out that late.

"Me regret going 100 per cent because me never even feel the vibes at a point and because me friend them a say a long time we nuh par so me must come with them and me never want them feel no way so me go," he said. "Right now me nah lie, it sad because all the persons who died are my friends like that and a me and them a par right through and to see them just gone like that."

"Tell him slow down"

Scafe revealed that the car almost collided with a column near Greenwich Farm.

"We tell him slow down but him never hear. Until him end up reach on the Toll Road me just feel the car lick up in the column and then it start flip," he said. "Me knock out for a second and when the car stop, me jump up and realise that one of the deceased was on me. The whole a me blood up and me affi ease him off and go through the window because I was at the extreme back seat." Scafe warned persons not to make the same mistake as he and his friends.

"Right now is better everybody just stay off the road because you never know what is going to happen and to learn the hard way is not easy," he said.

According to data from the National Road Safety Council, there 424 fatalities from 379 crashes in 2020. Last January, there were 29 deaths from 26 crashes.
