Man to answer for alleged machete attack

A man charged with unlawfully wounding a woman in Dunrobin, St Andrew, will have to stand trial on April 30, after he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court - Criminal Division yesterday.

The allegations against Clarence Murray are that on January 7, he used a machete to beat the complainant Marcia Gordon. According to Gordon, she had gone to a property on which Murray resides to visit his cousin.

"Me go dung a him yard because me want him cousin cane row me hair. Then me see Murray come and say 'Me nuh want you in a me yard'. When me turn me back and a go through the gate, me just feel sumpn slap me in a me back," said Gordon. "When me turn back and look me see Murray with a machete and him chuck me, mek me drop a grung."

Gordon said that she was forced to seek medical attention after the attack. Murray told senior parish judge Chester Crooks that he forcefully removed Gordon from his property but no machete was used.

"She come in a me yard and me did tell her that me don't want her in there. Me tell her to leave and use me hand push her through the gate. Me never slap her with no machete," he explained. "Me just don't want her over me yard."
