Jamaica records largest one-day COVID total with 263 new cases

Jamaica on Friday surpassed its record for most COVID-19 cases in a single day, with 263 cases recorded in the last 24 hours. This brings the total cases to 16, 513 with 3,797 active.

Of the new cases, 114 are males and 149 are females, with ages ranging from 1 day to 87 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the most new cases with 70, followed by St. Catherine with 64, Manchester with 46, and Clarendon with 32. 

St. Mary was the only parish to not record a new case. 

In the meantime, two more persons have died pushing the death tally to 357.

The deceased are a 78-year-old male from St. Mary, and a 71-year-old male from St. Catherine, whose death was previously under investigation.

Some 119 persons are in hospital with 21 being moderately and 10 critically ill.

Recoveries remain at 12,174.

According to the Ministry of Health, seven persons are in government quarantine, while 18,845 are quarantined at home.
