Relatives say ‘Bling’ was not involved in criminality
Family members of a man who was shot in downtown Kingston last week said he was a jovial, hard-working man who had ambitions of one day becoming a rapper.
The youth, Shavar Burton, 17, is believed to have been killed in retaliation for the murder of Harry 'Harry Dog' McLeod, a lieutenant to deposed west Kingston don Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
Burton, otherwise called 'Bling', was standing along a section of the roadway with one of his relatives when a group of men, travelling in a motorcar, opened fire hitting them. He died on the spot, while his relative was rushed to hospital.
Wrong place, wrong time
"The family is taking it very hard. Dem did just deh at the wrong place at the wrong time. Wi know whosoever dweet no know dem 'cause dem never inna nuttin yet," a female relative of the victims told THE STAR.
The woman said that the men have never been involved in criminality.
"Wi fear fi wi life because di rumour a spread say dem involved in violence. How people fi a say a him order the killing a Harry Dog?" the woman said, adding that her family members are merely vendors who ply their trade in the downtown market district.
