Bizarre double murder rocks Portmore - Former national athlete, young woman found dead in open lot
Detectives from the Major Investigation Division are continuing their probe into the murder of two persons early yesterday morning in Portmore, St Catherine.
The bodies of the deceased, who were identified as 19-year-old Raheima Edwards, and 38-year-old Nicholas Neufville, were found in an open lot on Dawkins Drive.
According to a report from the Corporate Communications Unit, persons stumbled upon the bodies lying beside a silver Honda motor car after 5 a.m. and alerted the police. The crime scene was processed and the bodies removed to the morgue for post mortem. Residents said they are shocked at the unpleasant discovery as the area is known as a 'chill out' spot, especially at nights.
"Mi frighten when mi reach whe mi a go and hear people a talk say body find. So when mi go back deh and see dem mi frighten. Mi a wonder how mi never notice dem but clearly a di other side a di car mi walk," a man said.
Neufville, a resident of Waterford, had represented Jamaica, and was currently the jumps coach at his alma mater Calabar High School. Several family members huddled together as they stared from afar at the crime scene. Neufville's brother, who had earlier identified his body, broke down in tears and had to be consoled.
A relative said she had stopped to use an ATM minutes after 11 p.m. Sunday, just metres away from where the bodies were discovered. Persons reported hearing explosions sometime after 1 a.m.
For a few hours, Edwards' identity remained a mystery until a woman who arrived on the scene told the police that she had matched the description of a friend's relative. A closer inspection of the body confirmed her worst fear.
"Her mother deh home a wait on her. Oh God, how mi a go tell her dis now? Mi can't believe a she ... mi don't know how her mother a go handle this," she said. A man who said he was Edwards' neighbour, also expressed shock at her demise.
"Is a nice little girl. She nuh too long left Waterford High School and would a normally go her mother shop a Red Hills go help out. A di last news dis mi expect to hear. Bwoy, I don't know eno but mi fraid a Earth. Young likkle girl just lose her life like that," he said.
