Woman hasn’t seen dad in 20 years

March 11, 2021

A tall man of dark complexion with a bald spot, and who was often decked out in gold jewellery, is the image of her father that is stuck in Shauna Reid's head.

Reid, 31, has been especially reminiscing on that image for the past couple of years. She last saw her dad, Anthony 'Jewella' Reid, when she was 11, and her wish is to one day be reunited with him or his relatives.

"I want to see him again or any of his relatives so they can get to meet my kids. It would really make me happy even though it's been a long time. I would know the feeling of having a father and my kids can know their grandpa," she told THE STAR. Reid had settled with her dad off Waltham Park Road in St Andrew after her mother broke off their relationship.

"I was living on Canary Avenue - I think they call it Woodpecker Avenue now - with him as a baby, but then my mother came back for me when I was like nine. I used to visit him but then I just stop and it seem he changed his number, and so from then I don't know anything," she said. "Him and my mommy broke up a long time ago, just a little after I was born, because they were having domestic problems so she left."

Her quest to locate Anthony in previous years has not yielded many triumphs. She even visited their old home but he was not there.

"I went back to Canary Avenue when I was a teenager to see if he was still there but persons in the community said he moved out and nobody know his whereabouts. I don't know his family either. I know he had a brother or sister in St Ann but I don't remember much because I was young," she said. Anthony got the name 'Jewella' as his trade at the time was to make jewellery. He operated his small business from a section of his home.

"I can remember him being at home making jewellery like chains, rings and fixing watches, so most people knew him for that. He was a regular racehorse gambler as well, I remember that," said Reid. She now resides in Portmore, St Catherine, with her mom and son, longing to one day have her dad as part of the family.

"I just want the chance to make my family feel complete with my dad. If he is no longer alive, I can understand but I don't want to leave anything up to chance," she told THE STAR.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Anthony Reid is being asked to contact Shauna Reid at 876-437-0955.
