Nearly 400 hospitalised from COVID as Jamaica surpasses 33,000 confirmed cases

Nearly 400 Jamaicans are currenty hospitalised as a result of COVID-19, as some 398 patients have been reported in hospitals across the island, with 28 moderately ill and 34 critical.

Meanwhile, total confirmed cases have surpassed the 33,000 mark with the island recording 638 positive results from a sample of 1,558 tests on Thursday, pushing total confirmed cases to 33,366 with 17,004 active.

Of the new cases, 281 are males and 357 are females, with ages ranging from six months to 96 years.

Kingston and St Andrew recorded the most new cases with 246, followed by St Catherine with 177,  and St Thomas with 42.

Trelawny with three and Hanover with six were the only parishes to record single digit new infections.

Four more Jamaicans have lost their lives from the virus bringing the death tally to 511. 

The deceased are: a 52-year-old female from St. James, and three persons from St Elizabteh: a 74-year-old male, and a 68-year-old and 95-year-old female.

In the meantime, there were 142 more recoveries, bringing that total to 15,615.

According to the Ministry of Health, three persons are in government quarantine, while 22,533 are quarantined at home.
