A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car along Fairfield Boulevard in Fairfield Park, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The driver of the ill-fated car has been hospitalised in serious condition. Eyewitness reported that a white Toyota Corolla motor car was heading west along Fairfield Boulevard when it got out of control and hit Roy Michael Mowatt of Fairfield Crescent, who was walking along the side of the road.

It is further reported that the vehicle dragged Mowatt approximately 30 metres along the roadway before crashing into and uprooting a concrete utility pole.

It is reported that one of Mowatt's legs was completely severed. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where his death was confirmed. The St Catherine North police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Family members who were on the scene declined to comment. Neighbours, however, described Mowatt as a quiet and humble person.
