Over 20,000 active COVID cases in Jamaica

Over 20,000 Jamaicans are currently accounted for as active cases of COVID-19 as the country surpassed the 38,000 mark for confirmed cases. 

In the latest clinical summary released by the Ministry of Health, of the 1,462 samples tested for COVID-19 in Jamaica in the last 24 hours, 480 returned positive results for a total of 38,227 with 20,200 active.

Of the new cases, 223 are males and 257 are females, with ages ranging from 1 year to 96 years.

Kingston and St Andrew recorded the most new cases with 123, followed by St Catherine with 103.

St Mary with nine was the parish with the least amount of new infections.

Some 475 patients are hospitalised, with 55 patients moderately ill and 44 critical.

In the meantime, there were 181 more recoveries, bringing that total to 17,197.

Meanwhile, four more Jamaicans have died as a result of COVID-19 increasing the death tally to 570.

The deceased are: a 79-year-old woman from Kingston and St Andrew, a 53-year-old man from St. Catherine, a 73-year-old man from Portland, and a 78-year-old female from Westmoreland.

According to the Ministry of Health, two persons are in government quarantine, however, 25,789 are quarantined at home.
