Able-Don Foote (left) and his client George Wright, member of parliament for Central Westmoreland, arrive at the Freeport Police Station yesterday for the questioning session.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Central Westmoreland, George Wright, who is alleged to have physically assaulted a woman, was questioned yesterday at the Freeport Police Station in Montego Bay, St James, and released.

Wright was questioned by detectives in the presence of his attorney, Able-Don Foote, in a session which lasted more than three hours. In a brief statement to the media, Foote said "Mr George Wright wilfully came in to the police. He was questioned and released without charge, and that is all that we have to say for right now."

A police source told THE STAR that "Based on what I understand, the female involved in the incident cannot be located by the police, so investigators are unable to press charges."

The woman being sought is believed to be the same Westmoreland woman who the police, via a press release on Tuesday, said they were seeking help in locating.

There have been loud calls for Wright to step down as MP, both from the opposition and residents of his constituency.
