A grieving son was forced to carry his dead mother's body on a motorbike to her grave as the coronavirus death toll in India continues to rise.

The woman reportedly died from the virus but there was no ambulance available to transport her.

Her lifeless body was sandwiched between her son and her son-in-law, as they took her to a crematorium.

The clip captures a police officer talking to the pair.

According to Dr Eric Feigl-Ding, an epidemiologist, following complaints of feeling sick, the woman's family took her to a hospital for treatment. They were reportedly told by doctors that her oxygen level was low and that she needed a CT scan.

In twitter posts, Feighl-Ding said while on their way back to the hospital after getting the scan, the woman passed away.

The autorickshaw driver allegedly told the family to remove her from his vehicle, then drove away.

Despite efforts to get an ambulance, no assistance came.

The woman's son and son-in-law then decided to transport her body using the motorbike.

India recorded 345,398 new cases of coronavirus and 3,130 new deaths today.
