Alleged child molester in custody

A male nursing assistant, who is alleged to have molested a 15-year-old patient at the Noel Holmes Hospital in Hanover, was taken into police custody on Monday afternoon.

Reports are that the girl was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday after she attempted suicide. Further reports are that about midnight last Friday, she was lying in bed on a ward, when the assistant allegedly molested her. The child told the nursing staff, and her mother was summoned last Saturday morning and a report made to the police.

The teen's mother is demanding justice for her daughter. "My daughter is very soft, silent. She is independent, she likes socialising with people. She also wanted to become a mental therapist, but I am not quite sure she is gonna chose this role after this experience," she said.

St Andrade Sinclair, regional director for the Western Regional Health Authority, indicated that he has heard of the allegations.

"It's currently under investigation, and it is a police matter right now, and that is all I have to say," Sinclair stated. Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has also reportedly ordered a probe into the matter. This incident comes in the wake of reports of an 11-year-old girl being sexually molested by an elderly man in Geneva district, Grange Hill, Westmoreland, last Saturday.

Reports by the police are that the child was at home sleeping when she was awoken by someone removing her clothing. She saw a man standing over her with a firearm in his hand. He then sexually assaulted her. The police say the suspect is now being sought. Both incidents are being investigated by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
