Flight with Indians leaves Jamaica

The charter flight which brought scores of Indians to Jamaica on Thursday departed the island about 11:46 a.m. Tuesday with all 253 passengers and crew accounted for, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz says.

He says the charter company and passengers covered all costs associated with their departure.

Some of the more than 200 Indians who arrived in Jamaica the flight from Dubai told immigration officials that they had travelled to the island for a five-day tour, but checks of their itineraries revealed coverage for only one day.

Immigration sources confirmed on the weekend that anomalies were initially picked up with travel arrangements for some of the group of mostly men while the flight was already airborne.

On arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston on Thursday, immigration officers discovered that there were also issues with the travel documents for some of the men.
