Man takes over police car
A man, seemingly of unsound mind, briefly took possession of a police service vehicle which was parked outside the police post in Lucea, Hanover, yesterday, much to the amusement of passers-by.
The man locked himself in the vehicle for several minutes after initially ignoring repeated requests from a policeman to come out of the service vehicle.
When he finally emerged from the car, the man, who spoke in an American accent, said he needed money to buy food. He also made it clear that he intended to take the car for a spin.
"If I had the key I would have drove off with that s*!t," the man said as he exited the police car with a bag in one hand and a broom in the other.
Superintendent Sharon Beeput, when contacted by THE STAR, said that the vehicle was not in working condition.
"The vehicle is out of service and has been parked in front of police station for a little. It would appear that someone left it open and he went into it. He could not have driven it away because it is not in driving condition," Beeput, the head of the Hanover police, said.
