Couple among three killed in one night in St James

Three persons, including a common-law couple, were shot and killed by gunmen in two separate incidents in St James on Wednesday.

The couple has been identified as Ashawn Holness, 28, a disc jockey ,otherwise called 'Eva Deva', and his 28-year-old girlfriend Jodi-Ann Roberts, security officer, both of Gordon Crescent in Granville. The other victim has been identified as Rodian Slowely, 31, otherwise called 'Brown Chops', a labourer of Re-Pasture, in Salt Spring.

The police reported that Slowely had just finished cooking his dinner about 9:15 p.m., and was sitting inside his yard eating when he was pounced upon by armed men. They opened fire hitting him multiple times before escaping in the area on foot. The police were summoned and upon their arrival, Slowely was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

More than two hours later, the Granville police reported that shortly after 11:45 p.m., Holness and Roberts were at home when three men armed with high-powered weapons and handguns entered the tenement yard. The gunmen approached the couple who were on their verandah and opened gunfire hitting them multiple times. The gunmen escaped on foot. The police were summoned and upon arrival, Holness and Roberts were rushed to hospital where they were pounced dead.
