Saphire Webb was in a state of shock when she saw her Primary Exit Profile (PEP) results because she could not believe she had been placed at her dream school - Immaculate Conception High.

The 12-year-old Saphire got admirable scores in the various PEP components administered while at Marlie Mount Primary in St Catherine.

"When I saw the results, I was in disbelief, I was in a state of panic. I asked my mommy call them and ask them if they are sure," young Saphire told THE STAR.

Her mother, Nerryssa Hitulah, could not hold back the tears as she spoke about her daughter's success.

"When I was logging on, I was so nervous - cold sweat literally came all over my body - but then when I saw her results and saw that my baby passed for Immaculate, I couldn't help but cry. I am so proud of her," said Hitulah.

Father died

The mother of three had Saphire when she was 15 years old. Saphire's father died when she was two years old. She often writes poems to him and said that she wishes she could share her results with him.

Hitulah, who has been standing in the breach ever since, said the road has not been easy.

"I've been through a lot of struggles with her, but even when I don't have it, I ensure she attends every class, every field trip. I find it where it has to come from, I find it," she said.

With the start of the new school year just over a month away, Saphire is preparing herself for life in high school.

"I'm kind of afraid to go to a new school. I'm scared of going to town and taking the bus, but I know I can do it," the Immaculate-bound scholar said.
