August 05, 2021

The alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl in St Ann by a teenage boy has shocked the Moneague community where the incident allegedly took place.

Police reports are that on Sunday, August 1, the child, who resides with her father, left home to visit her mother. While there, she reportedly went into her sister's room for her slippers when the suspect entered the room, held on to her and started to take off her clothes. She told him to stop but he continued, and then proceeded to have sex with her, according to the report. It is not known if the suspect is known to the victim. He was later held by the police. The incident brings to 13 the number of rapes reported in St Ann since the start of 2021.

One St Ann resident is expressing disgust at the number of rape reports that involve young girls.

"Any act of rape is wrong and must be condemned to the fullest but when the victim is a young innocent girl of just 10 years old, this calls for drastic action to be taken immediately to stem this horrendous act," the resident said.
