Rocquel Bartley said that her boyfriend killed a lizard in the house, which she claimed was haunted, and ended up in the hospital where he later died.

Rocquel Bartley is convinced that a woman duppy had a hand in her spouse's death. Her spouse died on July 1, a few weeks before she gave birth to their daughter.

Bartley, 29, told THE STAR that a series of strange occurrences began when they moved to a house in Hayes, Clarendon. She said a week after moving in, they were told that four families were forced to leave because the home owner's ghost was living there. Bartley said her spouse began feeling ill shortly after they moved in.

Demon sitting down on him stomach

"Him start feel some pain in a him chest, me affi rub him stomach, rub him back, use warm water and use olive oil ... Not knowing it was the demon sitting down on him stomach. Me go to a Christian man and him say 'You know [the ghost] is a little short, slim body lady weh nah lef him alone. Every eat him eat she eat with him'."

Bartley said the situation became more frightening when her spouse fell ill a day after hitting a lizard. She said he was taken to the hospital where he spent a few days then died. She believed the ghost followed her spouse to the hospital.

"A nurse turn to me and say, 'You know that him have visitor?' She say the visitor a nuh live sumaddy. A lady in the room with him and from him come here the Friday she nuh leave him alone. Every nurse me talk to them say every time them go in deh, [the ghost] a shub them out," said Bartley.

She said a man who came to the house to pray, related that he too had an encounter with the duppy and he also fell ill and was hospitalised.

The mother of five said that with her spouse, who was the breadwinner, now deceased, she has not been able to find basic needs, including food. She is sustained by the goodwill of her new neighbours in Lionel Town, Clarendon. She said that if she were to get some assistance, she would open a shop in order to earn an income.
