Woman gets 15 months imprisonment for throwing bleach and urine on Leoda Bradshaw
The woman who admitted to throwing a mixture of bleach and urine on Leoda Bradshaw while both were in custody has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.
Kilfer Gilchrist pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm when the case was called up before Acting Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson Gayle.
The court heard that about 9:00 p.m. on October 31, 2025, both women were in custody when Gilchrist attacked Bradshaw and doused her with the mixture, causing damage and severe discomfort to her eyes.
A medical certificate outlining the extent of Bradshaw's injuries was presented in court.
Attorney-at-law Abina Morris, who represented Gilchrist, asked the court to show leniency, telling the judge that her client regretted her actions.
"Your Honour, on the day in question my client was angry, but she expresses remorse for her actions," Morris said.
However, Deborah Martin, who spoke on behalf of Bradshaw, told the court that the accused had previously abused the complainant and attacked her after she decided to report the matter.
Martin said Bradshaw was satisfied that Gilchrist had pleaded guilty.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Nelson Gayle said Gilchrist showed a clear tendency towards violence and that a custodial sentence was appropriate.
"You have received a 50 per cent discount for your guilty plea. Therefore you are sentenced to 15 months," the judge said.
"To have been in custody and mix urine and other such ingredients to attack the complainant shows clearly that you are a violent person," she added.
The court also heard that Gilchrist admitted to dousing Bradshaw with bleach and another substance. Bradshaw was later taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Gilchrist was subsequently arrested and charged and had made several court appearances before entering the guilty plea.
