Search for Davian Bryan continues
It has been 82 days since the police and residents of Bath, St Thomas, launched a massive manhunt in search of fugitive Davian Bryan, who was accused of abducting two girls in as many days in the parish.
But, despite their efforts, the 46-year-old remains at large. Head of the St Thomas Police Division, Superintendent Allison Byfield, told THE STAR that the search for Bryan has been extended beyond Bath, but she also disclosed that some residents are becoming frustrated and that the numbers in the search parties have dwindled. However, she said the police will not relent until Bryan is captured.
"The search continues... we cannot get any information as to his whereabouts. We have combed Bath in St Thomas, we are still in there and have extended the search in other areas in St Thomas but no one has come forward to say that they have information that could help to locate him," she said. "There are some persons who are frustrated but there are some still assisting us in our search. They would join the police or conduct the search themselves. But the truth is that the number of persons who were out at first has been reduced."
Both abducted girls were found alive and returned to their families. They are still receiving counselling from specialists. Byfield gave an update on their well-being.
"They are coping because the victims are still being counselled. We have the Victims Support Unit and the Child Protection and Family Services Agency with them, as well as their immediate families. The last time we spoke was in the week of Christmas," she said. Byfield was adamant that the passing of time will not influence her men's desire to locate Bryan.
"I know it is taking some time and in the eyes of the residents it is long overdue and we should have apprehended him already. The reality is that it has not happened, but we are still searching and we are still asking for persons to assist us. Anyone who is in contact with him, we are asking you to come forward," she said.
Bryan is also wanted by the Portland police, where he absconded bail that was granted in relation to several charges, including illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
