JamaicaEye to shed light on robbery case
The Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court heard yesterday that video footage obtained through the Jamaica Eye network will be used in a case against an ex-con who is facing robbery charges.
Ted Richards has been charged with wounding with intent and robbery with aggravation following an incident last November. The allegations are that the complainants went to a bank in downtown Kingston with $489,000 in their possession to do a drop-box deposit. One of the complainants was allegedly attacked by Richards, who stabbed him in the back and face and robbed him of the bag containing the cash. He reportedly escaped on a waiting motorcycle.
When the case was mentioned before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague, prosecutors informed the court that video footage that was requested from the bank would not be forthcoming as their surveillance systems were malfunctioning at the time. However, the court heard that video footage obtained through JamaicaEye was sent to be processed by the Communication Forensic and Cybercrime Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Richards also told the senior judge that he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in 2014 for receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
He was made the subject of a fingerprint order and was further remanded until March 22 when his matter is to be mentioned. At that time a bail application would be heard.
