Man pushes babymother into JUTC bus
A 24-year-old man who pushed his babymother's head into a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus was ordered to make compensation when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.
Carvel Campbell pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court heard that Campbell used his hand to hit the complainant in her face and head, then proceeded to push her into one of the state-owned buses causing her to suffer swelling and bruises. The complainant told Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that she was seeking compensation from Campbell for the injuries she sustained but does not want a lot of money as they have two children.
"I leave it in your hands, anything you say I will work with it Your Honour," the complainant told the judge. Cole-Montague ordered that Campbell is to pay $90,000 and should make the first payment of $20,000 next month. Before leaving the court, the complainant told the court that at nights, Campbell trails her and waylays her after she leaves work. She added that Campbell issued threats to her.
"Him tell me say 'Me muss make a man shoot out yuh head anyhow yuh go court and mek me get lock up' and dem summen deh him a tell me Your Honour," the complainant revealed.
Having heard the complainant's concerns for her safety, the senior judge added bail conditions for Campbell. He was ordered to report to the police three times weekly and was ordered not to waylay the complainant. He was made the subject of a daily curfew between 6 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A fingerprint order was made and Campbell is to return to court on March 22.
