Cashier accused of swindling more than $1.5 million

A cashier at a bill collection entity has been accused of misappropriating more than $1.5 million
Eugiene Wilkinson, who has been charged with two counts of larceny as a servant, was brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday where she pleaded not guilty.
The court heard that based on findings from an audit, from January 17 to 21, Wilkinson, who was employed at an establishment located at the Lawrence Tavern Post Office in rural St Andrew, collected cash on behalf of service entities but underreported the amounts of money collected.
In one instance, according to the allegations, she collected $195,000 from a customer but only posted $1,950 to the customer’s account. Prosecutors yesterday informed the court that the audit is ongoing and submitted to Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague that conditions be added to Wilkinson’s bail, which is currently set at $100,000.
However, before adding the conditions, Wilkinson’s attorney asked the judge for additional time as his client did not carry her passport to court. Cole-Montague granted the request but ordered that Wilkinson report to the police once weekly. She is also prohibited from going to the post office.
Wilkinson was also made the subject of a fingerprint order and is to return to court today when further bail conditions are to be added.
