Cross Country Invasion is known for bringing communities and supporters of the RJRGLEANER Communications Group together, and this year is no different.

Observing the varied COVID safety protocols, a range of sporting activities will form part of this year's 18th edition, which will take place from March 6 to April 2 across 14 parishes.

"We tried to choose sporting activities that would be easy to control, small numbers [and] low interactions," Nicarno Williams, marketing and special projects supervisor for the RJRGLEANER Communications Group - broadcast media, told THE WEEKEND STAR. "We're doing a 'B' and 'C' class pool tournament for the first sports day, which is the Saturday after the end of the first week. For the second sports day, which is the following Saturday, we have a strongman competition. The third week will be an 'A' class pool tournament and the fourth week we have a bodybuilding competition."

Pre-registered participants will be vying for varied prizes, including cash from sponsors. This year's main sponsors are Grace Foods, Sunshine Snacks, Guardian Life and Digicel Foundation. Other sponsors include Hi-Pro Ace, Gateway Co-operative Credit Union, Statistical Institute of Jamaica and Trang Back Tonic Wine.

Other activities throughout Cross Country Invasion will include virtual street jams, outside and virtual broadcasts, a dedicated weekly TV show, detailed regional features, and church services. Patrons will be able to experience it all through the Group's brands: TVJ, The Gleaner, Radio Jamaica 94FM, THE STAR, POWER 106FM, FAME 95FM, HITZ 92FM, 1SPOTMEDIA, RETV, JNN and TVJS.

All activities will be executed safely and responsibly with a reduced number of persons, along with the COVID guidelines of sanitising, mask-wearing and physical distancing being strictly enforced.
