As a teenager growing up in Central Village, St Catherine, Sobrina Anderson had a crush on Davian Tennant, so much so that she could barely keep her eyes off him. She was 17 years old and Davian was 23.

Davian became a wheelchair user in 2006 after being hit with a stray bullet at an entertainment event. He noted that the bullet entered through his chest and exited through his back. But he had never let that stop him from living his best life.

Sobrina was in love with the idea of being in love with Davian, but she was too shy to say a word.

"He used to be in his shop, and every time I would just pass and see this wheelchair guy and him always just look nice and neat and fresh," Sobrina, 25, told THE STAR.

"We had a mutual friend and I asked him about his condition and so on. I thought the person would have told him that I liked him, but he didn't. I was so shy that I used to sometimes pretend that I was talking on my phone when I was passing his shop," she said.

Davian, 31, recalled that he was told by the mutual friend that he was being admired by a "short, bend foot girl", but did not realise that it was Sobrina.

"Suh when mi call somebody and dem give me some more information mi realise say a she. Mi did shock when mi find out seh a she, because mi always a ask her fi har number and she nah give mi," he said.

"Although I had her number, I wanted to get it directly from her, so I asked her but she keep on a hold out."

Sobrina said she was on cloud nine when she realised that Davian was interested, but remained at arm's length.

"Mi did shy. Mi never know what to say. Plus, I didn't want him to think I was easy to get," she said.

Davian said that when he finally garnered the courage to call Sobrina, they spoke for more than 15 hours.

"We spoke from after 9 p.m. the Sunday night until 5 p.m. the Monday evening. We started dating and then I left Jamaica a year later for the UK, but it did not put a damper on our relationship. I used to visit regularly and we used to be on the phone 24/7," Sobrina said.

"He was the one who used to wake me in the morning for college or work. He would stay on the phone right through and not hang up. This was what I wanted, so I put time in it," she said.

In 2019, Davian said he had plans to propose marriage, but Sobrina found out and encouraged him to delay those plans.

"We were going to a family dinner and my mother and other family members knew him, but not my dad. My father was going to meet him at the dinner for the first time, and I didn't want him to propose that time because my dad is very outspoken, and I was afraid he would just pop out an tell him no, he can't do that and he should get up off his knee," Sobrina said between laughter.

Two months later, Sobrina called Davian and asked him which month he wanted them to tie the knot. The couple got married in February 2020.

"We are really happy and we enjoy each other's company. We really love each other. I know a lot of times people will ask what is this beautiful girl doing with a man in a wheelchair. We are both blessed," he said.

They share their love story on their YouTube channel and they said that they are looking forward to adding a child to their union.

"She is going to finish her studies then we will focus on having a child. We have been together for nine years, so the sex is great and not awkward at all. At first it was new, but I have got comfortable " said Sobrina.

"Nothing is hard for me. I will take on any challenge," Davian chimed in, between laughter.
