Cop loses firearm after going to use ‘bathroom’
An investigation is now under way after a St Ann-based policewoman lost her firearm after using bushes as a bathroom.
The firearm was found by a civilian and returned to the police hours after the cop reported it missing. THE STAR understands that on Saturday, the constable stopped along the Llandovery main road to relieve herself in nearby bushes. The reports are that a few minutes afterwards, she realised that the firearm was missing. A search was conducted in the area to retrieve it but the firearm could not be found. When contacted for a comment on the matter, head of the St Ann Police Division, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, confirmed the incident and said that the firearm was now in police custody after a citizen handed it over to a justice of the peace.
"The weapon is back with us. It was recovered by a citizen in the same vicinity and handed over to a justice of the peace who returned it to the police. Following the incident, our internal investigation is happening," he said. He also expressed gratitude to the citizens for returning the firearm.
