‘You are not the father’ - Woman says her baby looks like her former lovers

A woman who is caught in the middle of a love triangle said she wants to conduct a paternity test to confirm who fathered her eight-month-old child as she believes the child shares features of her former lovers.

Her startling revelation was made at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday, where she is the complainant in a case brought against her 31-year-old ex-boyfriend. The man pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he confessed to grabbing her throat following a dispute.

"Me don't want him go nuh prison. Me don't want him go nuh lock-up or nothing. Me just want we do this paternity test," the woman said. "Me know is who [the father of the child], but me just want him see fi himself because the baby fava di two a dem," the woman said.

Both men stood in court with her, one in the prisoner's dock and the other beside her. She confessed to cheating on her then boyfriend while he was on one of his extended fishing trips.

She insisted that she was never with the man who got her pregnant, telling the court "A one time me gi him, one time".

However, the man who is currently behind bars said that he was led to believe that he was the father of the child. He said that he found out otherwise when he saw another man's name on the child's medical documents.

"Me and her deh fi two years, and the type a work weh me do, me deh a sea fi two months. When me come back, me see baby born, and at that time ... she say she want a fridge. Me buy her the fridge, and we deh at the house now. Me start search up the house now and find the baby book weh dem get fi go clinic. When me lift up the book, piece a paper drop out of it wid a different person name on it. Deh so the problem start, Your Honour," the man said.

The fisherman said that he contributed more than $150,000 on each occasion that he returned from an extended fishing trip.

Meanwhile, pointing to the man who insists got her pregnant, the woman said: "Me and the father, we have a co-parenting arrangement, but me nuh want him. Me want him [pointing to her ex-boyfriend standing in the prisoner's dock], but him wah kill me."

She then pleaded with the judge to release her ex-boyfriend from custody, but the judge said that she was concerned about the complainant's safety and ordered a social enquiry report for the parties involved.

They are to return to court on May 17.
