Scores of persons took to social media to condemn the murder of Kamar Davis, a National Water Commission (NWC) worker who was shot and killed last Saturday while on duty in Waterford, St Catherine.

Davis, 35, was clearing a blocked sewer in the area when gunshots were heard. He was later found suffering from gunshots wounds and was subsequently pronounced dead. He was reportedly hit several times in the upper body.

According to one Instagram user: "See all if a me a run that me cut off wata dung a that [expletive] until uno talk a who."

His sentiments were echoed by a Facebook user who questioned the impact that Davis' death will have on his loved ones.

"So he was murdered while carrying out his job... what now for his family?" the user posted.

The NWC, in a release yesterday, said Davis was passionate about his duties, before condemning the gruesome act and offered condolences to his family and friends.

"The killing of Mr Davis is a sad reminder of the risk and danger faced by some members of the NWC team in the execution of their duties in service to the public," said a company spokesman in a statement. However, the commission said despite the challenges, it remains committed to its mandate to deliver the highest quality of water and sewerage services to its valued customers.
