Three times the surprise - Couple welcomes triplets after expecting one child

Three months into her second pregnancy, Nyoaka Lindo believed that she was having only one baby, but got the shock of her life when a sonogram proved that she was actually having triplets.

The 26-year-old, who is also mother to a three-year-old boy, said the news flung her into a tailspin, giving her an instant headache.

"I had gone in to do an ultrasound to find out the gestational age of my pregnancy, and the [sonographer] was looking to see if everything was there that should be there, and when she looked she saw another little movement," she told THE STAR. "When she looked, there was another baby. She said, 'Congratulations, you're having twins.' Then she saw another movement and she said, 'You're having triplets' and she was so excited but I wasn't excited. I was shocked." She added: "I wanted to cry because I know this would be a lot of work and hard work too." She said her partner, Clevone Nicholson, was equally shocked at the news. "He was so shocked that he went to sleep and didn't wake up or speak for the rest of the day," she said with a laugh.

But Lindo's concerns morphed into pure joy on February 22 when she gave birth to her daughters: Kamaya, Katalia and Kahlia Nicholson. Lindo says the triplets use a 30-pack diaper and a 400g formula daily. She told THE STAR that taking care of the triplets has been hectic, as they do things in unison.

"They do almost everything the same time, so you have to move quickly. If there's no one else here, I have to do it quickly so that everybody is at peace and go back to sleep and I can get a little rest until my son comes from school," she said. "Feeding time, I'll give one breast and give two bottle. Or I lay down and have one on this breast, one on the other and someone is feeding the other one." Her sister assists with the babies during their bath time.

She also lauded Nicholson for his support and said they rotate shifts at nights to care for the girls. Even though the couple both have twins in their respective families, the news of the triplets also caught Nicholson off guard.

"Mi say three? Woah, that's a lot," he said. But having his girls around has brought him immense joy.

"Mi just try mi best fi be here fi dem and make sure them alright, do mi best and make sure them happy," he said.

Nicholson said that the financial responsibility that comes with taking care of four children is heavy, but he will be relentless to do what he can, as best as he can.

"I never had that fatherly love so I try my best to make my kids get a different childhood. I try my best to be there and let them know their father is always there for them," said Nicholson.

But amid the hectic schedule and sleepless nights, the couple agree that three babies mean three times the love.
