Local advocate Derrick 'Black X' Robinson is currently hospitalised at the University Hospital of the West Indies, after suffering from excruciating pain and breathing issues last weekend stemming from a swelling in his neck.

"I had to come in on Saturday because I had a huge swelling around my throat and I had difficulty swallowing. The swelling was there for a few days but the pain got really bad and it was challenging to breathe, so I had to jump on it right away. Thankfully, the medical staff got the pain under control but they are running a series of tests right now and keeping me under observation," he said. Black X said that now that the swelling has been reduced, he is able to consume mostly juices along with 'soft' vegetables.

MENTALLY PREPARED

In March, Black X, who is on a mission to get the Government to name Chief Tacky as a national hero, told THE STAR that a tumour was causing him to lose his voice and there was a possibility that he may have to undergo surgery to remove his larynx or voice box. He, however, stated that he has mentally prepared himself to learn other means of communication, if necessary.

"I am just hoping for the best and trying to recover as fast as possible. I don't know when the surgery will be done, but I am trusting that the end result will be in my best interest. I want to thank everyone for the well wishes," he said.

Once back on his feet, he said that he will continue his mission with or without his voice. The Rastaman has been walking barefooted for little over 15 years advocating for hero status for Tacky.

"I will not stop. The mission will continue after I am recovered," he said.
