Man fatally shot in Cassava Piece, INDECOM probes

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is currently probing the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Kashife Smikle by the police in Cassava Piece, St Andrew last night.

According to reports, Smikle, otherwise called Zena, and two other men allegedly opened fire on police officers patrolling the community shortly after 10 pm.

The officers returned fire.

Smikle was later found suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police say a 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene.

Residents from the community took to the streets this morning to protest the killing.

The blocked road was cleared by the police and they are maintaining a presence in the area.
