Puppies set on fire

Persons inside the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court were left stunned yesterday when they heard that a Corporate Area man allegedly poured gasolene on a litter of German Shepherd puppies and set them on fire.

The accused, Kareem Weeks, 30, pleaded not guilty to malicious destruction of property and cruelty to animals before Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks.

It was reported by the complainant that she saw Weeks and two other men at the back of her house removing a piece of cardboard from the roof of the doghouse while the puppies were still inside. It was further alleged that Weeks doused the animals with the flammable substance and used a lighter to ignite the cardboard which was dropped on the animals.

When he was cautioned by the police, he reportedly said: "A my doghouse, dem nuh fi use it and dem did kill me dog already." Weeks, who is on bail in the sum of $100,000 with no conditions attached, is expected to return to court on June 10. He is represented by Simone Robinson.
