Gangster did not fully trust guard ring

An alleged member of the Clansman-One Don Gang was heard in a secret recording saying that one of his cronies was involved in guzu (obeah) but was still afraid.

Another alleged gangster was also heard yesterday in the Home Circuit Court saying that the "coward" gangster had a guard ring but it might not be working. The alleged gangster, identified as Shrek , mentioned obeah during a conversation with defendant Jason 'City Puss' Brown and the prosecution's main witness who had recorded the secret conversations that he had with some of his alleged cronies.

According to Shrek, the alleged gangster who was identified as Frazzle was afraid of leading the men into the Fisheries community in St Catherine on the night when they killed a couple and set their home on fire. Shrek was heard in the conversation saying that Frazzle, who had been leading the group, opted to give him the lead when they got to the community claiming he did not know the area, though he was born there.

"Dawg a jus tru di bwoy Frazzle did coward and mi know him have him guzu and di bwoy coward," Shrek said. Brown replied: "Him have one ring but it come in like it nuh too hundred."

Shrek then indicated that he did not have any ring but was very determined. But Brown added: "Eh did strong, enuh, but you have spirit weh a walk wid you weh unknown and sometimes you say a yuh mind a tell yuh but a nuh yuh mind."

The trial previously heard that some of the alleged gangsters believed in obeah and had their own personal 'science worker'. Brown was previously heard saying in another secret recording that he had a teenage obeah man who could accurately predict when the prison wardens were going to search his cell.

The trial will continue today with the testimony from the prosecution's final witness.
